Jossph Wallis, the keeper of- a fruit shop at Riversdal-e, states that on Friday night last, hearing a noise in his shop, he opened the door, and found two men inside. They asked him to oomo in and speak to them. One caught ham by the throat, threw him, and kneJt on his chest. They robbed him of £5 odd, counted the money, and invited him to meet them in the morning, bufc before tho hour set were in Gore, whence they departed Dune din wards. A warrant ! is out for their arrest. One is said to be an eld criminal. It is reported that Philip Ferris was robbed of a Waterbury watch and £1 by the same men. In the prosecution for having trotit in his possession out of season of a fisherman named Ra s k, who deposed that he caught them outside of the league limit, and therefore not within the jurisdiction of NewZealand, Mr M'Carthv. S.M has imposed a fine of £5. In the point raised the magistrate said the defence had not put any of those in the boat in the witness box to corroborate defendant's statement that he had netted the trout beyond the three miles from shore. Mr M'Caithy declined to iucicase the fine to £5 Is, on the ground that counsel had ample power to appeal on all legal questions. A boarding-house at Fortrose was destroyed by fire on Sunday afternoon. It was a two-storey wooden building, formerly % hotel. The fire started in the children's bedroom, and everything was burnt, including the stablas adjoining. The place was tho only boarding-house at Fortrose. Insurances: On the house £275, on the contents £300, and on^the stables and contents £95 — all in the New\ Zealand office. The office ! l-einsiuanees were £150 in the Standard and 1 National.
