CLYDE.

' October 7.— Tha weather lias been favourable io growth during the past week, and consequently ihe pasture has improved very much. TLe early-sown oats have com© away beautifully, therefore a shower of rain woixld be most beneficial just now before the dry season Lambing. — It is not at all likely that tho percentage of Jambs will be quite so good as that of last year, owing, no doubt, to the scarcity of feed upon the high country during the winter months. The method ci burning off the native grasses with a view to getting a little green feed at this time of the year cannot be 100 strongly condemned., as In a dry region such as this it cannot be expected that native tussock shall recover the effects of burning during many years to come. Indeed it is questionable whether this grass 1 will ever regain its former vigour when once turned on dry lands such as those of Otago Central. There have been many extensive grass fires on the hills round here, and it appears to ba the acme of folly to destroy herbage where there is no possible chance of replacing the native article with something better or nearly as good. Agitation for Land. — This perennial subjecu is, I learn, to crop up again, the action ot the Vincent County Council, in ruling Cr Pitches' s motion on the subject out of order, being co^ denrned on all sides. A© just stated, the subject is about to be discussed here again.
