WAIKOUAITI AND CLUTHA.
(Feom Cur Own Correspondest.) WELLINGTON, October 3.
For some time it has been known that Mr J. W. Thomson had definitely decided to retire from politics, and the former member for Olutha has been mentioned a^ the man Clutha would again wish to ha%"e as her representative. To-day I interviewed Mr Mackenzie on the subject. He said it was true* he had been asked to stand for Olutha, but, whilst deeply appreciating this token of confidence from his former constituents, he was going to stand for Waikouaiti, a constituency any man might well be proud to. lepreseat, and he hoped, with
the assistance of bis friends, to again have that lionour. Mr Mackenzie's return for Waikouaiti, I may say, is very generally regarded as a certainly.
