At Blenheim on. .Wednesday Jos. H. Byrne, a. young - man, was charged with robbin,g Patrick * 0 ? Drisooll of Is on the night of the '4th "inst.. and at the same time using personal violence. This, is the_ case in which . O'Dfisodll'was severely-w ounded in the head and " taken ;to the ' hospital, where he has been ever since. A stone and a bloodstained handkerchief found on accused were produced in court, the police theory being "that accused used these as a sling to batter Orisooll on the, head. Accused was oomniitfced for trial. ' , There are 40 men now employed at the Seddon end of the Blenheim- Waipara Railway. It is understood that the dissatisfaction recently expressed with, regard to the raites of pay for co-operative labour no longer exists. Three prisoners at t'hs Dumgree plantation works, named Edward Black, James Wilson, and Bolton, broke loose on Saturday night, but were recaptured by the warders early next morning., having travelled only a few miles in the direction of Blenheim. Some articles were taken i from the huts of the railway surfacenien in the vicinity, and the prisoners will be charged with the theft of these when appearing before the magistrate. It ' is understood that the Agricultural Department declined the request for the appointment of a flax grader for the ports of Blenheim -and Picton.
