THE WOOL SALES. LONDON, September 26.
The wooleales are brisk and prices unchanged. Continental buyers are very active. The average price realised for the fleece portion' of the Rawhiti clip was Is. September 27. The wool sales are firm, witii a tendency against buyers. The following are the average "prices realised for the fleece portions of the clips named: — Kekerangu, ' 10|"d; Tariki, 12£ d; Otamitu, 21|d. - 'The wool sales closed firm, th© prices fy&ngjthe highisst of the series. ;Tie quantity of wool sold for Home con"sumption at the sales just closed was 36,000 bales", for the 'Continent 32,000, and for ApTerrca-3000. The quantity held over is ' 4000-bales. -
-Merinos met -with the kean-esfc demand. lAll : ooinbings advanced — fine, 7 per cent ; good -scoured realised Id above July rates. Choice -erossbreds were scarce" at par to Ad higher. AH topmakers sorts were fully 5 per cent, higher.
September 28. At the wool sales the following were the average prices realised for the fleece portions of the clips named: — Meanee, 10§d; Waiki, 221 d. WELLINGTON, September 29. The Industries and Commerce Department lias received the following cablegram from Abe High Commissioner, dated ""London, 28th: "The wool sales concluded with a very strong
. market and a good demand for all descriptions. The stock of "small supplies does not l meet the requirements of the market. Prospects ar« favourable. Estimated value: Fine crossbreds, .all grades, Is o|d to Is 3d per 1b; medium crossbreds, all grades, lid to Is Id; coarse crossbreeds, all grades, lOd to Is Id; superior merino, Is Id to Is 4d; medium, Is to Is Id; inferior, 8d to 10|d." Messrs Dalgety and Co. (Limited) report Shaving received the following cable from their bead office, dated London, September 27:, — ''Wool sales closed very firm. The old stock is now virtually -ail cleared off. As compared -with closing rates of last series, ' prices for scoured super merino -wools are 5 per cent. -.higher $ other descriptions 5 to 7£ per. cent, higher, except short scoured, inferior, and faulty descriptions, for -which -prices are on a par with closing rates ot last series. Greasy merino wools in.- -general, 5 per cent. Mgher, extra superior excepted, for which any change in price ia in favour of sellers. Fine cross•bried wools, at pa.r to 5 per cent, higher ; medium crossbred, 5 per cent, higher; ioarse crossbred, 8 per cent, 'higher, except' light and bright descriptions, which are on a par with closing rates of last series. Out oi the net quantity available for sale, some 44,000 bales have been sold for Home consumption, 32,000 bales for the Continent, 3000 bales for America, leaving 3000 bales to be carried forward to next series. "We have a very favourable opinion of the pi-aspects for the ensuing series of sales." The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile 'Agency Company (Limited) is in receipt of the following cable advice regarding the closing of the fifth series of sales:— "The market closed strong for all sorts. Previous rates were fully maintained. As compared with last sales' closing rates, prices are about -the same for faulty wool."
