POMAHAKA DOWNS
September 23. — The weather cannot go \vron% now, somehow. We have had a long spell of fine sunshine and toleiably warm weather, though that east wind is a caution pome times. AVere it not that we are all pretty srtoutly built, it would have- us cut 111 two. At present ire are enjoying a little muggy weather for a change. The Farm. — The farmers are all well ahead with their sowing. Seme paddocks T can see pretty green. Ihe grass paddocks a.re also getting "on their spring appeaiance. These told winds ,have be cm g-ieatly against the growth, bivt the % praseut muggy weather will fetch it on. Whmbs are now making their appearance, ?.nd I uotice that there axe many cases of twins this year. I have heard of «cmo ewes being lost from too much fat. i daresay v,e shall have a, visit from stallions soon and I hope some gcod^ew blood will erne lound. I sco our friend Mr Irving, o[ Clmtor, is bnngftig out from the Home Country a high-priced stallion. Kuniour has it that* it is going to travel m the Pornahaka, district, but I am doubtful about tlint. There are plenty of maies here, but very little 3HonPy— the fault of the {SoveriMiienl. I'he House.— l should like to send our united s>iL,pathy to the Eight Hon. Mr Sed--iou for the terrible time they have been giving huri in the House. Peer mail! It is sad. to se !iiin getting worued in his old age. Had ho only resigned and goi)e to South Afiica ,"hen"at the height of his glory, ho would have escaped all this. By Hansard I reacS of the opening of the land tenure debate. 1j is evident that the Pienncr drcad3 the ocruurg election, and is going to buy tho Ciov, n tuiants over as iax as he can. Here is wbdt he say- m bis speech —""Where wo hnd that oui tenants ha\u =iifTeieJ. and where i\i 1 uve ejected too mucl' rent and .bey aic ccJinpeiied to iun mto debt. I sjj-,
lei vs 1 give ihose old tenants who are in thaf condition the same treatment in respect t< low rentaU- and otliei concessions as we are giving to new tenants. ' Why, had we on the l'omahaka Downs got the same stait aa 13 proposed to be given to new settler) on X'c-or land — viz., four years without naying rent — the Pomahaka Downs would now be si settled rcmmtuiity with a dsiry factory and a full school. However, we know Mr Seddon all right now. Too many of these baits hay« been huug out on the eve of the election, so unless this bill is passed befoie this Parliament is dissolved, wo ■jhall have nothing to do with him or his obedient followers.
