BERLIN, September 23. Owing to the high cost of living as a result of the clearness of meat and other necessaries, . the employees of the Berlin electrical-engineering companies have asked for an advance of 15 per cent, in their Balaries. The employers offered 5 per cent, as the extreme limit of the advance, as the -working day Wfcl previously been reduced from ten to nine hours. The employees refused to work, with the result that two companies have locked - out 8000 employees. Other trades threaten' to strike if the lock-out extends. - . OTTAWA, September 20. The Dominion Trades -and Labour Con- . gress unanimously reiterated their loyalty 7 to' the British Trades Union. The Congress" denounced 1 " Mr Chamber- '■ lain, declaring his fiscal, policy to be unjust to the Motherland's wage-earners, that it will strike- a blow at the Canadian workers, • and 1 lead to the imposition- of iresh burdens .upon the, industrial classes. SYDNEY, (September 21. The report submitted at the annual meeting of the Employers' Federation stated that the Arbitration Act had produced discord in every branch of labour.
