LAKES DISTRICT ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
A meetingof the council of the Lakes District Acclimatisation Society was held recently, Dr Douglas presiding. The Secretary read the" new regulations in the Aew Zealand Gazette concerning the netting of trout in the Lakes district. It was resolved, on the motion of Messrs Reid and Dagg— "That the sections in Lakes Diamond, Reid, Moke, and Hayes be sold by public auction or let by tender." It was decided to issue licenses for netting and selling trout in Lake Wanaka as heretofore.. In regard to Lake Wakatipu, Mr Reid said that he was in favour of leaving this lake open to fishing. According to one of the best authorities they had — Mr Ayson, Inspector of Fisheries — if the lakes were not fished the troul would get- the upper hand 01 the feed; protect the trout, and there will not be enough feed. Mr Ayson said that if Lake Rotorua was not fished for all it was worth at t\e present time'' the trout would get into the same condition as at Wakatipu and other lakes. It was decided that the same conditions obtain for Lake Wakatipu as for Lake Wanaka, and that each person who takes out a license be restricted to 10 nets'. One holding a license to net must obtain a separate license to sell.
