He was bred by Messrs A. and W. Montgomery, Netherhall, and Banks, Kirkcudbright, Scotland; imported to Australia in 1903 by Mr J. E. Walter, of Glen Luss Stud, Werribse; thence to New Zealand by the present owner. Hie sire, Baron's Pride (9122, C.5.8.), is celebrated as the best breeding' Jiorse of th-e present day throughout Scotland. He was awarded numerous local prizes 'as a youngster, and in 1894, when four years old, was first and champion male Clydesdale exhibited at the Highland and! Agricultural Society's show, Aberdeen. BARON GRACEFUL'S dam, Graceful (13,977), by Macgregor (1487). Macgregor gained first prize at Dairy, second 1 sd Kilmarnock, and first at Dalbeattie in 1879 when, a yearling. BAEON GRACEFUL won third prize at the Royal Society's show, Carlisle, ir July, 1902, in a strong class. He aUo won first prize at Kirkcudbright. His full sister won last year fir^f and cliEjnpion prizes at Castle Douglas and Kilrnarnoek, and first prize at Ayr for best yearling filly. Blacon Jewel is a full sister to Baron Graceful, and has won numerous prizes, and was sold at ths Blacon Point sale for 150gs. The North British Agriculturist says : "This filly was father ' missed ' by the company. She is a beautiful anirna}, and in comparison with the others was sold muc.'i under tier value at 150g5." The average realised for 12 females sired by Baron's Pride -was £'223 4s 3d. The total proceeds of the sale for 30 head of stock amounted to £4SC3 Bs, or an average of £152 3s 7d. This only shows that Baron's Pride is just as great a horse in the sale ring as the show yard, and the former is the true test. Blacon Jewel (renamed Lad3 r Alexander) ■was first at the Highland Society's show at Glasgow and first at Edinburgh. Baron Graceful's first crop of fcals ill New Zealand show great promise, and compare with any in the land — the fact is, it is impossible for Abbot or Baron Graceful not to breed a lot ot good colts and fillies.
