MANAWATU v. TARANAKI.
PALMERSTON NORTH, September 13. At football to-day Manawatu defeated Taranaki by 6 points to 3 points. The game, which was played on a dry ground, was willing and excitins from start to finish. The team's were evenly matched. The Manawatu forwards were superior in effective work, and were in better condition; but the visitors had the best Team of backs, taken all round. Burke scored a clever try for Taranaki, and Johnston crossed twice for Manawatu. None of the tries were converted. Rothingham (Taranaki) injured his leg : and had to retire.
