Notes from Clyde. (From Our Own Correspondent.)
CLYDE, August 30. The Unity dredge is now working full time, and is approaching ground where good returns are expeoted. The Matau, Wee Macgregor, and Monte Christo dredges are working full time. , The river is keeping low, and it is not anticipated that any early rise will occur, as there is not much snow ripon the mountains. September 4. The Monte Christo dredge has had a very fair waah-ixp this week. The ground appears to be improving as the dredge works ahead. Great credit is due to the dredgemaster (Mr Olsen), who has succeeded in making the working of this ground payable, after repeated ' failures by o+h_er diedgea, A.
The Matau dredge has ■struck r piece of gold-bearing ground. This claim has been worked profitably for years, and the present dredgemaster finds it rather difficult to get on to a consistent stretch cf payable wash. The river portion of the claim is patchy. The Unity dredge is working full time, but the returns have not yet improved. : j | I j j | ■
