Mr Be.dford, who was the last member to speak on the' land debate, compared, the Premier to " llr Eeeble Mind," who would not face his Hill of Difficulty, not walking upright, but was content to lie down and take his whipping just like a cur. The Premier rose with some beat, and moved that the words be taken down. The Speaker put the motion, and it was declared carried on the voices. The words were accordingly taken down by the clerk of the House. Mr Bedford, on being asked for an explanation, said be would withdraw the word and apologise for having used it. rie intended to convey the opinion that the Premier would take a whipping lying down, and the word " cur " had com© "out of his mouth inadvertently. The Speaker said the hon. member must withdraw from the chamber while the matter was discussed, and Mr Bedford accordingly withdrew. The- Premier moved that aa the hon. member had expressed regret no further action be taken in the matter. • Mr Taylor expressed a hope that the Premier would himself set an example in this respect 1o younger members, as he (Mr SecMon) frequently used offensive terms. The motion having been carried Mr Bedford returned to the House, and *was informed of the decision. The Speaker cautioned the hon. member, an-d members generally to be more cautious m their language in future. The incident then ended, and Mr Bedford continued his speech until the adjournment of the House a few minutes later.
