DUNEDIN BURNS CLUB.

The attendance was more than usually large on the 16th at the monthly meeting of th 9 Burns Club, and the programme provided furnished excellent entertainment. The president (Mr R. Grilkison) presided over the gathering, and introduced the Rev. Mr Maclennon (of Chalmers Church), who, in a few brief remarks, congratulated the club on the good ■work it had done and the success attending its labours. Mr Dxigald M'Pherson also gave a short address, and announced that at a future meeting he would read them a, paper to prove that Burns was of Highland parentage. The audience in a good-humoured, but vehement, manner strongly condemned this suggestion, and Mr Jfl "Jb^herson. concluded l>y giving as a recitation Burns's ' Address to a Young Friend." The programme of musio began with bagpipe music by the club's pipers, and ended with '" Auld lang syne," as a matter of course. The part-singing showed evident signs of improvement under the musical direction of Mr W. X Don. buf more male singers were wanted last night to balance the voices. Amongst the so'oists Mrs R. Hudson was the chief favourite, for she was called upon five times, and would gladly, had time permitted, been heard oftener. Miss Gertie M'Leod (by the kind permission of Messrs Fuller) contributed a song that was highly appreciated. Mr F. Hendry and Mr J. Robertson were the gentlemen soloists, and Mr B. A. de Lauloiu- gave a well-executed violin solo. Mis 3E. Wright was as effiecient as ever in the accompanist's chair. A dance followed th» concert.
