HINDON.
July I.— The fine open, weather experienced here during the past 10 days has given the stock depastured- in the outlying parta ot tie district a good chance to find abundance of feed at the time o£ writing on the native pastures, as the surface of the land .has been clear of snow for several weeks past, and the e'entents hav.e not been unduly severe for the season, of the year.. The hard frost we had. some- time ago has given, way, and » spell of mild r open weather has now set in to gladden the hearts of the stock graziers here, in Otago Central, and probably higher inland as- weiE The heavy snowstorm predicted has not yet arrived. Political. — The public mina. is much exercised, even at this early stage, over the election of a representative member for the Taieri electorate at the ensuing- elections. For this district it ia universally admitted that the present member has the best chance of being re-elected. We hear a- great deal occasionally about the. Government candidate proving a formidable opponent to deal with at the next election. Agart from this view, so freely expressed at times v by a section of the electors, I am persuaded from what has transpired that Mr Donald Reid, jun.! will be re-elected for the Taieri seat in Parliament at the next general election .by an overwhelming number of votes over his opponent, as he has been well received everywhere.
