SOME NOTES FOR THE SOUTHLAND L.F.
The membership of the Invercargiil Club has mcrepicd m a most remarkable manner during the past month or two. At one meeting lecently no Ici-,t than six enthusiastic D.L.F. were enrolled as members of our club. Trul}' it never rams but it pours. lam sure I am only echoing the cry of the members when I 'say "Let 'era all come." i The Debating Society, while undoubtedly being gieat^y strengthened by these new members, has c ustained a reveie loss in the resignation of Southland Cynic, -who has been associated with the club since it^ formation, and has done much to raise it to the high standard it now oocupies He was the first president, arid filled that office with admirable tact and ability. Since that memorable night, last August, when it was decided, amid much enthusiasm, to form a D.L.F. Debating Club, hew the old members have fsded away. Santiago, A. S. S., and Cynic, oil have 'eft us; but as tile old onc>3 fall out, rew membsri step in and fill up th r - lanks. It is truly gratifying to note the great in--tsrest some of oui country comrades take in the club. Hardly an open meeting passes but what we arc joined o-i paper by such wellknown writers as Boy, itoby, Darky, etc. Indeed, even cur dear comrade, Daisy Primrose, ha.3 not forgotten u°, a charming paper fiom her gracing the open meeting. I A most pSfeuliir mania has mads i'.s appear- ' ance here. It is noi. a "note craze." Oh, •no! It is what may be suitably defined as a "pastry craze.'' It is a sight worth seeing to take a stand and watch certain well-known D.L.F. rush off after a meeting to the nearest refreshment rooms, which they soon quit, smiling and happy, with a load of pastry and coppsrs. Have you cornered the market in copper yet, Maidio ? It is so awfully sweet, Regina. ! On ait- j — That Ita -wishes to kirow if the D.L.P. boys show taste in selecting their ties. j — That the old 'writer Millicent will be a ' valuable addition to the membership of th» Debating Club. | — That Morepork is rarely seen except in tba evening. i j — That Tika is sure that the weather will soon be cooling. j f — -That Southern Cross is of the opinion that | , cats • are a decided nuisance. Oh, Southern . Cross, how could -you ? ! — That it is worth one's while to inspect , the business premises of the president, especially on -a Friday evening. — That Maidie and Cares -are a-lways of the same opinion, even in debates. , — That Zealia'cnjoys -a walk-after church, j — That Rose-a-13ud is in town just nbw, renewing acquaintance with her many D.L.F. friends. i — That Darky has gone on an 'extended tour. j —"That if they do not want to be run to | ' earth. Southland Critic, Quago, and the others j i ''will have to form a union for their mutual ] ' protection. — Your 3 truly, I ' SOUTHLAND CRITIC.
