The Winter Show. TO THE EDITOR.
Sir,— The winter show of the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Association is undoubtedly something the association has a right to be proud of ; but it can be made yet more attractive to the crowds of delighted people who visit it if the suggestion I am about to make be carried out. I take the opportunity of making this suggestion in your columns in order that it n:ay come directly Tinder the notice of country visitors now in Dunedin. Briefly, the idea is that prizes should be given for the best collection of exhibits made by any one family. The competition might well be named, "The Family Court Competition." The exhibits would consist of anything grown or made by the members of one family. ShouJd sons and daughters have left the farm and learned a trade, then examples of trade handicraft might add greatly to the appearance of the Family Court. The more I think over my idea the better it sseins, and the greater the scope for making a really effective display — a good cash prize should be given, &nd the names of winners enrolled on an honours board. — I am, etc.. H. Btjckiand. Kiatoa, Waikouaiti, June 16. [Mr Bucldand's suggestion appears to us to be a most excellent one. and the Committee of the association will doubtless give it their best consideration. — Ed. O.D.T.]
