THE RAILWAY ROUTE.
"With such a wonderful stretch of country of such excellent agricultural quality available, the question euggets itself whether the railway coming up from Roxburgh would he in tho centre of the tributary areas if taken over the river at Miller's Flat. However, that is a question with which I am not at present closely concerned more than that it is my duty to point out that in the future Ormaglade and Teviot Stations will undoubtedly be subdivided into farms, and will be carrying a large population and sending forth tremendous quantities of produce, aud these areas should be served by a railway, either by the near proximity of Lhe main line or by the construction of a branch. Ib has been pointed out to me that the railway coining up the- Miller's Flat side of the river could be continued on the same side to opposite Roxburgh ; but I am not prepared to advocate that, believing that, crossing the river higher up than Miller's Flat, the line could te made to serve all Ormaglade and Teviot, and also Moa. Flat and the Slouth Roxburgh district to the best advantage. One thing, however, is vertr dear and that is that a railway from Heriot through Moa Flat would never serve the district: I think I have_ shown tha utter fallacy of that proposition put forward by southern agitators. One half of Moa Flat is amply served by Edievale terminus. and the other half lies in to the Molyneux Valley, «,Ed would fee well served by the railway froai Lawrence to Roxburgh; and th«ra can be absolutely bo question that, in the interests of the district and of th© colony at large, the railway must com© up the Molyneux Valley from Beaumont.
