THE HIGH COMMISSIONER. (From Our Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, June 14.
The announcement of Mr Reeves* s appointment to the High Commissionership in London is well received here. Everyone recognises that Mr Reeves was entitled to the position, and the only wonder was that he was not appointed months ago. The Post expresses pleasure that the Premier's coy hesitation is now at an end. In regard to Mr Reeves, it adds: — "He has been untiring in his advocacy of the interests of the colony, and if he has shown less push than would have been contributed by his only possible competitor for the new position, he has certainly displayed a much higher degree of judgment and tact. We may be quite certain that his zeal will not be relaxed by reason of his promotion, and also that he will avoid the opposite extreme of associating the enlarged office with anything high-flown or grandiloquent. He will proceed as energetically, but also as discreetly as before, and if he is given the opportunity of renewing his acquaintance with the changed conditions of the colony by personal contact and observation, the one serious disqualification which mipht mar his success in the new role will be removed."
WELLINGTON, June 14. The Hon. W. P. Reeves, Agent-general, has been appointed High Commissioner for the colony in England.
Recently a piece of land comprising au acre, situated in Mansfield street, Wellington, was disposed of by a firm of auctioneers for £4300. Reference to the valuation lists of the city for the year 1863 shows that the land was then valued at only £50. Is illness itself not a trouble
Sufficient without an M.D.? Are worry and pain not made double
By thought of the consequent fee? Let sickness not make you uneasy, When health is so cheap to procure ; For coughs and colds, sneezy and wheezy. Take Woods' Great PEPrEisjn^i Odee.
