NELSON.
A fire occurred at Nelson on Friday, when a. 13-roomed residence, rented by the College Governors, in which two masters and 18 boys slept, was totally destroyed, together with the contents. A gas jet had been lighted there in the morning, but no fire, by the maids who attended from the college house, and no one was in the building when the fire occurr-ed, the boys being away in classes. The fire had a complete hold when observed, and noitfiing was saved. The masters lost valuable books, and the boys what they had not on them. Twelve of tho boys suffered at the previous fire. Arrangements were at once made for boarding those burned out. The building was owned by Mrs Raikes, and was insured for £500 in the Sun office. The college authorities had the furniture insured for £60 only, divided between the Victoria, South British, New Zealand, and Liverpool and London and Globe offices.
