INSPECTION AND SLAUGHTER OF WELLINGTON, June 13.
A depxitation waited on the Right Hon. Mr Seddon to-day with reference to the inspection and slaughter of pigs intended; for human consumption. It was estimated that many pigs killed were diseased, and it was urged that all baoon factories should be subject to inspection and pigs killed under inspection. This was said to be desirable, as 8 per cent, of the pigs killed 1 in the North Island under inspection were affected with tuberculosis. One of the speakers said that a great number of the pigs condemned at his factory were handed >ver to butchers. Mr Reakes, assistant of the veterinarian stafF, said that in one shop in Wellington he found three out }f five pigs exposed for sale affected with ;überculosi3. Mr Seddon said he would! lave the question considered, and the Minister of Agriculture would, if -necessary, Dring in legislation to meet the case.
