RATANUI
June 12. — In common with other district?, this place was inflicted with a heavy fall of snow from the 2nd to the 3rd inst. On Suaday morning there was from six to J5 inches of snow lying, and of course the higher up you went the deeper the snow became. No more beautiful picture could be seen than that presented by the bush while the snow lasted, every twig' and branc-h and limb being beautifully draped in white. All day long could be heard the cracking of tho branches, and ever and anon a b : g limb would come down with an ominous crash. This was fortunate for the cattle, as it provided plently of good bush feed for them. The Vice-regal Visit.— The Governor and party paid a visit to this district during j the snow storm, but they could only see the \ station. It was undoubtedly the wrong time of year for the visit. Had it been paid in the summer time they coud have been driven , to some of the beauty spots of the Catlms i district. J |
