In the seventh week of the New Zealand egg-laying competition 819 eggs w&re laid, as against 735 for the previous week. This brings the average per pen up to eight and > one-fifth eggs. The number of tnon-con- ; tributing pens has been reduced from 18 to 15. The number of eggs laid to date is 1 3236. The total for last calendar month . is 1405. The leading pen is H. Leger'e Vhite Leghorns, from Levin, with 23 for the seventh week, and an aggregate of 168. F. Brooks'e white Leghorns, from South Australia, are second with 27 and 159 respectively. H. Crever's silver Wyandottes, from Westport, are third with 13 and 122. On Saturday (saya the Southland Times) Mr J. A. Hanan, M.H.R., received a telegram from_ the Minister of Justice intimating that in_ compliance with the request for more police protection another constable would be sent to the Invercargill station.
