Notes from Cromwell.
CROMWELL, June 13. A warm rain set in last night, and the river is up considerably this morning. It ia raining now, so there will probably Be a, further rise, which will affect the returns for a few weeks. The Alpine No. 2 dredge has been stopped since Friday doing some repairs. The Rise and Shine No. 1 dredge stopped yesterday for an overhaul. The ladder wanteel straightening, and this, it is understood, ia the principal cause of the stoppage. June 17. The weather is fine but very cold, with hard frosts at night. Tho river is now nearly, down to the level before the rise last week. The New Halfway House dredge bottomed] on good payable wash right on the boundary, alujoj^ certain to. h&ve good, jiax_bi<*
returns r%hi up to the Consols boundary. It makes the lower olaim owned by the Consols below look as likely to turn out "well. The Halfway House dredge uniortunately broke a spur wheel yesterday before she got right across the cut, and it wiH take some time to get that part from Dunedm. The Riley's Beach dredge will start again on Monday. She left off on rich gold, and I expect the dredge to do well for the winter.
