cutters, etc., applying daily, a large number of flax mills having closed down till about August. Good milkers are always scarce, and always wanted. Trappers are busy pegging away, and there are nearly always openings for skilled men with outfits, traps, etc. A few farm and station couples are moving off ■weekly; also hotel porters, grooms, etc. We quote wages as follows: — First-class ploughmen, 255, 22a 6d; shepherds, £60 to £65; fencers, 20s, 21s, 255; trappers, 5d per pair; farm and station couples, £70 to £80; Sabourers, 7s 6d; hors© drivers (town), 7s; Jiotel porters, 20s to 255 ; grooms, 15s to 20s ; milkers, 17s 6d to 22s 6d; cooks, 20s, 22s 6d; cooks and bakers, 25s to 30s ; farm labourers, 203; working farm overseers, £75 to £80; thousekeepers, 15s to 20s; female cooks, 17s 6d- to 30s; farm generals, 11s to 12s 6d; iwaitressas, 12a 6d to 15s.
