A DRAW AGAINST YORKSHIRE.
! LONDON, June 5. The weather was dull, and a fairly, fast wicket was provided for the return match against Yorkshire, which began at Bradford yesterday. The attendance was 14,000. Wilkinson (who captained the home team in the absence of Jackson) won the toss. Trumper, Gehrs, M'Leod, and Newland are standing out of the Australian team. Play opened quietly, but soon became free. Fifty were recorded in 45 minutes. Wilkinson skied Armstrong to Howell at mid-on. The retiring batsman had given a good driving display. He bit six 4's. One for 70. Grimshaw continued playing sound, cautious cricket. Denton, who had partnered him, scored 11 off one over by Layer. When he had scored 6 he was missed by Armstrong in the slips off Noble, and twice later by Armstrong off following balls from Noble. Then the century went up after 90 minutes' play. At the luncheon adjournment the score stood at 128, Denton having been again missed at 32 in the slips by Layer off Noble. After lunch Denton was run out in attempting a second overthrow run. Denton had another life 25 runs later on from Noble at short-leg off Armstrong. He was batting three and three-quarter hours, and his play was characterised by brilliant cutting, driving, and pulling. His score included 19 4's and seven 3's. With three and a-half hours left to play and requiring 383 runs, to win, the Australians commenced their second innings. Hirst was absent. Darling was finely taken at long-off on the boundary by Denton. Duff was hitting freely. The score at the luncheon adjournment stood at one wicket for 35.
After lunch Duff continued to score rapidly, but lost Hill, who was taken at the wickets. Duff got 10 off Ringrose from one over. Two for 68.
