TARANAKI.
A somewhat exciting burglary took place at Eltham on ,the lGth. The night watchman discovered evidence that Robb's drapery establishment had been broken into, ■ and on investigation he found the burglar busy with the till. The night watchman called on him to bail up, and the burglar dashed back to the exit, getting out before the watchman could locate him. As he was running away he was fired at unsuccessfully. Later investigations proved that other shops had been entered. On Saturday , i the police cleverly arrested a native, Wha- j karui-u "Whatitiri, who was leaving by train for Wangs nui. Incriminating documents were found in his possession.
