EGG-LAYING COMPETITION

CHRISTCHTJRCH, June 5.

The statement for the fifth week of the New Zealand Utility Poultry Club's egglaiynt? competition at Lincoln College shows that the number of eggs laid last week was 324- (previous week 339). The total for tha five weeks was 1528. The average per pen last week was 8 20-38 th, as compared with almost 9of the previous week. The follow* ing are the highest on the list, the total given being for the five weeks: — H. Hawke. (Greytown) silver Wyandottes, 26 (total 151); A. M. Prioe (Chrjstohurch), buff Orpingtons, 23 (total 131) ; John Mann (TempJeton), -white Wyandotfces, 26 (total 119); Alfred Tyree (Christchurch). black Orpingtons, 21 (total 103); F. A. Rollinson (Kaiapoi), white Leghorns, 19 (tota 1 . 93); R. E. M. Evans (Christchurch), silver Wyandottes, 16 (total 89); H. S. Cox (Sockburn). buff Orpingtons, 19 (total (87); Edmond Wilder (Fernside), buff Orpingtons, 23 (total 68) ;, J. H. Shaw (Riccarton), brown Leghorns, 13 (total 65); W. B. Cowlishaw (Christchurch), black Orpingtons, 12 (total 60). The besfi week's laying since the start of the com? petition was 33. which was dono three times in succession by tne leading pen. The best day's laying for the whole of the pens was on May 25, when 59 eggs were laid. During last w«ek one bird has become broody in eaoh of the following pens: — 2 (Oox), 13 (Bosham Poultry Farm), 21 (Wilder), 2§ (Hawke), and 26 (Price). All tlie birds are well.

We have to acknowledge receipt of £1 from E. 0. and 2s 6d from "Sympathy* for the Mrs Boardmau Fund.
