DUNEDIN PRESBYTERY.

The regular meeting of the Dunedin Presbytery was held on the 23rd, the Rev. L. Thompson (Moderator) presiding. The Rev. Mr Kilpatrick asked leave to have his dissent recorded to the motion that had been passed by the Presbytery in connection with the Bible-in -schools movement. He was heartily in favour of the Bible in schools. He was not even against the text-book, but he was altogether against the ethical and other teaching that had been suggested, and was part of the platform. The Rev. Mr Borrie did not think Mr Kilpatrick should be allowed to make a speech. He (Mr Kilpatrick) had been absent from the meeting when the matter had been discussed, and had no ground for his dissent. The only thing he should do was to oppose the whole thing. Th© Rev. Mr Kilpatrick explained that his absence was due to his being at the Training College. Had he been present he would have opposed the platform, and he now asked that his dissent be recorded. Finally, on the motion of the Rev. Mr Borrie, it was agreed to allow 'Mr Kilpatriok to record his dissent. The Rev. Mr Borrie said the committee appointed had considered and dealt with the question of the amalgamation of the j Church Extension and Sustentation Funds, in consequence of tEe union of north and ■ south. The committee had gone into the proposals seriatim, and had virtually adopted them as a whole, with slight alterations. There was nothing material to j the whole scheme that had not been agreed to. The Presbytery went into committee to consider the scheme, and adopted the proposals. Dr Gibb, ohairman of the executive of the Referendum League, wrote asking for financial assistance in the carrying out of the objects of the -league.— lt was moved hy the Rev. Mr Soorgie that the letter be received and discussed. — Dr Nisbet further moved that a committee be appointed to consider and report as to the best way for the Presbvfcery to give financial assistance to the Referendum League. — The Rev. Mr Chisholm moved still further that a committee of the Presbytery be appointed to draw up a statement defining the attitude of the Presbytery towards the question, consider the letter from Dr Gibb, and report. — Dr Nisbet then withdrew what he had just previously moved. — The Rev. Mr Chisholm's motion was carried, and the committee appointed consisted of the Reva. Sutherland. Borrie. Chisholm, Kiloatrick, Messrs Reid and Crawley; Mr , Kilpatrick to be convener. Application was made "by Ravensbournefor permission to introduce the individual cup, and Dr Nicolson iiavmsc explained that the congregation was practically unanimous on the question, only two dissenting, the application was granted. It having been mentioned that a letter Ead been received from the clerk of the. Auckland Presbytery regarding the call of the Rev. Mr M'Lennan to Chalmers Church, and a telegram having been read from Mr M'Lennan desiring that the induction be fixed for about June 20, it was resolved that the date of induction be June 21, in the afternoon.
