The minister was rector of a large city parish, and had under his care three or four mission churches, scattered about thf> city. It was a horribly hot day. But he was determined not to disappoint the congregation. There w|as no one there except tho sexton, but he decided to have a short morning service for tho sexton aud him- | self. I While he was reading the opening sentences a man, w^ll wrapped up. oame in and took a seat near the rear of the church. When the short service was ended the clergyman mado tho announcement that, owing to the small attendance, he did not think it worth while to preach a- sermon. The man in the rear, who had: taken part in the service and showed his familiarity with it, rose and asked if the clergyman would not read the litany and the full ante-communion service. He seldom got a chance to go to church, ani would enjoy th-5 full service. The clergyman gladly complied, and then; thinking such a devout ohurchman deserved special consideration, went on and preached a long sermon. At the close of the service he -put on hw coat and hat and started for the door, where he found the devout parishioner waiting for him. It was his cabman, who
! had taken this means to get another hour» i hire of the cab out of him !
