HIDE SALES.

Messrs Dalgety and Co. (Limited) report as follows:— W© held our fortnightly isale of hides, etc., at our stores, Cumberland and Vogel streets, on Thursday, 18th inst:, when we submitted a large catalogue to the usual number of buyers. Messrs Stronaoh, Morris, and Co. report: — We held our fc-rtnightiy sale of hides at our stioies, Crawford street, on Thursday, 18th ins-t., when we submitted a catalogue comprising 489 in all. The attendance was somewhat larger than usual, and competition "' round was very good. In consequence we a very satisfactory sale, although value? only equal to those ruling a fortnight ago. The National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand (Limited) report as follows: — We held our usual fortnightly sale of hides at our stores, Cumberland street, on Thursday, 18th inst.. when we offered a moderate catalogue to the usual attendance of buyers. Bidding was brisk throughout the entire sale, but prices showed little difference to those obtained at our last auction. The Otago Farmers' Co-operative Association of New Zealand (Limited) report: — We held our usual fortnightly sale of hides at our stores, Crawford and Vogel streets, on Thursday, 18th inst., when there was the usual attendance of buyers. Competition was particularly brisk throughout the sale, although, the catalogue offered was only a medium-sized one, and the hides mainly from country clients. For extra prime ox there was a keen demand, and prices, compared with last sale, were better. We can quote: Extra prime ox, s|d to 6Jd; good heavy do, 4|d to 5Jd; medium do, 4£d to 4|d; light da, 4gd to sd; extra heavy cow, 4£d to 4Jd; medium do, 4|d to 4|d ; light do, 4|d to od ; stags, to 3Jd per lb. Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co. report: We held our fortnightly sale at our Maclaggan street stores on Friday, 19th inst., when there was the usual attendance of tanners and others interested in the trade. Our catalogue, however, was small, totalling only 235 hides, comprised of 128 ox, 94 cow, 6 yearling, and 10 calfskins. Among the ox hides were three lines of extra stout, well-flayed sorts, and these realised from 6|d to 6|d per lb, this latter price being the highest given at this week's sales; the balance of the offerings were made up of medium to good quality lines. Competition throughout the sale was good, but especially so for extra stout, heavy, and light ox and medium and light cow. For medium-weight ox and heavy cow bidding was not quite so brisk. Values, however, were well lip to those ruling at late sales.
