MELBOURNE, May 2. The Hon. A. M'Lean, Minister of Customs, referring to the suggestion of Mr E. W. O' Sullivan (now in New Zealand) that an effort should be made to develop trade I with New Zealand, said that he had always been in favour of preferential trade within the Empire, and would be inclined to grant the privilege io New Zealand in common with other parts of the Empire.
