LONDON May 1.
While unpacking the oxygen cylinders for a lantern lecture at the Winterthur School in Switzerland, an explosion occurred, killing the attendant and seriously injuring a number of students. Dr Dutton, of the Liverpool School of Tropical Meddcine, succumbed to tick fever during the sailing of the expedition to the Congo. New 12in guns are replacing those aboaid the Ocean and Vengeance, as the wiring has slackened. The PaH Mall Gazette urges the Admiralty to keep the country abr.east of all the facts connected with the naval guns. The new battleship which Mr Lee foreshadowed in his Gosport speech is to be of 18,000 tons displacement, and to carry eight 12in and ten 9.5 guns, but will have no ram. She will be completed within 16 months.
CONSTANTINOPLE, May 2. The Turkish regulars attacked a Greek band at Belkamon, killing three and capturing 50.
