ROXBURGH.— Considerable interest was taken in the election of a. school committee for Roxburgh. The school room was crowded out, over 150 persons being present. Eleven persons were nominated, and tb.e ballot resulted afe follow: — Richard George (re-elected) 81, Robsrt Cockburn (re-elected) 70, Henry Veale 67, J. H. Waigth (re-elected) 60, T. Grover 60, T. Gourlay 60, M. M'Mullin (reelected) 54. Au active canvas had been made of the district, and the voting is t-he largest ever known at Roxburgh. MIDDLEMARCH.— Messrs W. D. Mason, J. Robertson, F. Atkinson, T. M'Clintock, W. Thompson, J. Hay. Mr Geo. M'Donald was recommended to the Education Board for election as a member of the committee.

In the absence of the chairman of the School Committee, who had sent an j.pology, Mr Drakley was voted to the chair. The annual report, which showed a good year's recoid by ihe committee, was unanimously adopted. The following gentlemen were elected a committee for the ensiling year without a contest: — Messrs J. A. M'KinnDn. Fraser, A. R. Falconer, J. E. Wingfield, M. Hendry, J. \V. Heward, Jno. Outram, Jos. Smith, A. Drakley. At a subsequent meeting of the committee Mr J. A. M'Kinnon was Te-slecetd chairman. No member feeling disposed to accept the office of secretary, it was decided lo leave the matter over till ths next meeting on FridayWAIKOUAITI.— The annual meeting of householders in the Waikoiiaiti School district was attended by 40 householders, besides other peisons. The report stated that the number of ehiidren-on the roll at the beginning of "the year was 153, that 25 had been admitted and 27 had !efb during the year. There had been one changa- in the staff durnig the year — viz., Miss Orkney promoted to Arthur Street School, Dunedin, Miss Straiten filling the vacancy. The work of the school had gone oit regularly, as thers had been no ppidemios. Garden classes had been held as usual, the children
seeming to take great interest in them. Friendly lelations existed between the coinnJttee and staff, and the result of the last examination had bee.i very satisfactory. The year's accounts commenced with a credit balance of ±'15 0s 7d, and ended with a surplus of JE32 18s lid. Mr W. Russell (chairman of committee), in moving the adoption of the report, stated that out of the surplus a good sum would have to be expended on repairs ar.d painting at the janitor's cottage, aad he n.l=o brought before the meeting the question of a teachers' superannuation scheme. The motion was seconded by Mr T. Smith, and carried, as wa.s also a resolution urging the Government to introduce legislation igiving effect to a superannuation scheme for teachers. The Mayor -was thej^ voted to the chair and tLe election of a new committee wa9 proceeded with, the result being: — Messrs W. Russell 32, Geo. Williamson 32, J. Brown 31, B. Hallett 31, T. Smith 27, A. Templeton 24, S. R. Smith 21 (elected), R. Pearson 19, A. A. Fleming 18. A meeting of the nc-wly-elected committee' followed, at which Mr W. Russell was again appointed chairman and Mr B. Haliett was appointed secretary and treasurer. GR-EYMOUTH.— Two ladies were elected by a good majority over two old members of the committee. The report and balance sheet having been adopted, a resolution was passed in favour of superannuation, and also in support of the Petone School Committee's circular. SANDYMOUNT. — The meeting of householders was not largely attended. The balance sheet showed a debt of £1 3s, but as the committee commenced with a debt of £1 9s the present result is considered satisfactory. The master's report disclosed the disquieting fact" that the supply of pupils is running short, ■ there being 10 pupils less on "the roll now than at the beginning of the school year. The following were elected as a committee 1 for the ensuing' year : — Messrs John Aitken (chairman), R. Weir (treasurer), Andrew Aitken. (clerk), H. Skerrett, R. Boyles, and H. Cowan. The meeting unanimously passed a resolution urging the Government to grant facilities for the establishment of a superannuation fund, for teachers. A vote of thanks was accorded, to the outgoing committee. The thanks of the meeting are due to Mr Weipers for presiding.
SAWYERS' BAY.— Ten persons attended the annual meeting of householders in the district of the Sawyers' Bay School, held aa. Tuesday evening. Mr C. Duke occupied ths chair. On ijhe motion of Mr Pithie the report and balance sheet were adopted. The report stated that the attendance during the first quarter of the school year averaged 97 — a. figure that had not been reached for seven years, — the average for the last quarter being99. The banking account, which started w'tfe a- credit of 8s sd, closed the year with a, credit balance of £'8 6s lOd. the grant from the Education Board having been raised. Mr Flamank and Miss Johnstone still remained in charge, and the committee was highly satisfied with their work. A pupil teacher hail been aclcled to the st.tff during the cuirent" year. Several of the older boys had taken. iiv> cottage gardening; under the guidance of Mr Gordon (assisted by Mr Flimank). Bes'des ihe usual work the boys had received practical instruction in the making and linina-in of cuttines of hedge plants and shrubs. The householders were to be congratulated on. having such a practical man as Mr Gordor* to interest himself in this good and iiseful work. Mr Angus moved a vote of thanks to the outgoing committee, the motion beingcarried. A resolution was passed by the householders approving of the _ principle of superannuation for public school teachers. The following oommittee was elected: — Messr3 N, Gordon (chairman), A. Reid (secretary and. treasurer), R. Pairman. C. Hewitt, A. Kydcl, J. Downes, and E. Johnson.
