A rich red rose Hests proudly on her heart, I see, Kissing its throbbings, hiding all its flutt'ring fear;
And Cupid knows How gladly would I be A rose by prosy, nestling in her bosom there.
She knows it not. The wish that flies upon the wincl About her from, one heart that crushes all its pain Of torrent passions, mutely blind — And sighs despairing for her favouring glanca ~in vain! Unceasingly A pagan worships — one who stoops To kiss the cold, grey ground her fairy foofc has trod, And dreamily >. Love scenes with her m fancy groups; That vanish with the thought, and leave hx3 heart a clod. Foul Fate denies My ■wish her fond, devoted slave To be.
