THE OAMARU TOURNAMENT.

OAMARU, April 25. The bowling tournament was contimxed today, and -all but one game completed. The greens were still playing well, though somewhat keen at the ends. Worsley and Heron played Crow and Sinclair, and at the fourteenth head were 5 up, when play had to be suspended. ] April 26. The last of the visitors to leave were Messrs Dall. Keast, and Stokes who left today by fhe second express. .There was quite a arowd of bowlors at the station to see them off, cheers most hearty and enthusiastic being given -and returned. Six weeks ago there was just a trace of disaffection against the New Zealand Bowling Association about the meeting just concluded, as the vice-president (Mr C J. Payne) was not considered to be too friendly towards the south. But dining the last few days he has been so genial, so hearty, so thoroughly anxious to help to keep things moving that the southern bowlers now look ; upon him as one of their very best friends. Added to this, he has been playing a fin© game in the truest bowling spirit, so much ! so that " Good luck to the vice-president of i the Kew Zealand Bowling Association " will j meet with a hearty response from ev-eo-y In- j vercargillits. Tlie last match of the tourney was played on Wednesday afternoon in a gale of wind, R. and J. Erskine beating .M'llwrick and Ham rather easily in the final of tho Pairs Match. The brothers Erskine entered for the sake of having a game, the lead being ' a comparative ne-w chum, but they have performed s»o consistently that, with the exception of the closely-contested match with Dall and Xeast. iliey have had comfortable wins. The final match against Ham and M'llwrick was. co exception, and although the latter were expected to get home, the two brothers gave

them no chance. R. Erskine (skip) played som? very fine shots, and thoroughly deserved the win. The record of the losers is, however, sufficiently good to satisfy any ordinary mortal — second in the Championship Rink, second in the Pairs, and first in the Ordinary Rii.k. The set of bowls won by E. Erskine is a particularly handsome one.
