THE DIRECT STEAMERS.
The Star of New Zealand lefc Auckland for London, via Las Palmas. at 8.30 a.m. on Thursday. The Kaikoura sailed from London on Thursday for Lyttelton, via Hobarfc and the Cape. AUCKLAND, April 18.— Arrived: 7.50 a.m., Everton Grange, from Liverpool, via Australia. AUCKLAND, April 23.— Arrived : 9 p.m., Paparoa, from England via Cape Town. April 24-.— Arrived : Marere, from London, via Australia.
HOBART, April 18.— Arrived: Paparoa, from London. She resumed her voyage to New Zealand at 1 p.m.
HOB ART. April 20.— Arrived : 3 p.m., Gothic. She sails for Wellington at 6 a.m. on Saturday. Thirty-one passengers landed here, and 153 are proceeding to New Zealand.
LONDON. April 18.— Arrived : Rippingham Grange and lonic, from New Zealand. Sailed : Star of Victoria, for New Zealand. NEW YORK. April 21.— Sailed: Hawke's Bay. for New Zealand ports.
HORSES FOR THE EAST
Messrs Houlder Bros, and Co. (Limited) despatched the steamer Jeseric from Sydney on the Bth inst. with 870 horees for Hongkong. The steamer Fifeshire also left Sydney on the same day for Brisbane to load a number of horses for the East.
BAD WEATHER AT NEW PLYMOUTH
NEW PLYMOUTH, April 22,
During the rou?h weather on Thursday night th© Whakatane, loading frozen meat off Waitara, had to put to sea, leaving a punt loader! with meat et the anchorage. The punt broke adrift, and drifted on to the beach three miles north of Waitara. The meat has been carted to the freezing works, more or less damaged by water.
Arrangomonts are being made by the owners of the wrecked steamship Australia to blow the vessel up during the Easier holidays. Salvage operations have been discontinued, but it is expected that a quantity of the iron plates of which the vessel is constructed will be recovered after the blowing-up operation.
The U.S.S. Company's now Islaucl steamer, wlnr-h is to be an improved ICa^ua, and i« of 3500 tons, has been launched and named the Apua. after one of the islands in the Samoan group. , The steamship Langtou Grange left the
Georgp street pier, Port Chalmers, on Thursday afternoon for Sydney, at which port she will embark 1100 horses with the necessary stores, etc., for Japan. The s.s. Kuniaia completed the discharge of her inward cargo on the 18th. She ha« a!?o taken in a large quantity of frozen mutton, with wool, flax, and other produce at the Boiun p.t-r, Port Chalmois.

Tho Ri\enna, the Huddavt-Parker's new steamer, is expected to be launched early in August, and should be an acquisition to tho -Australian in tor-State -trade. She is 400 ft lone; o\er a', with a 'beam of 50ft, and will be fitted for the accommodation of 154 first, 130 s< eond, and 100 third class passengers. She will be fitted with triple expansion engines, and steam will be supplied by six single-ended boilers. Her N". 4 hold will be isolated for the carriage of frozen cargo, and flic is expected to maintain a speed of 16 knots.
The s.?. Morayshire, from Lyttelton, a i rived ai PoiL Chalmers on Friday forenoon, and was berthed at the George street pier.
The. Shaw, Savill. and Albion Company's ss. Kumara loft the George street pier, Port Chalmers on Sunday for London, via the Bluff and northern ports.
The outward cargo from Dunediu for .South African and West of England ports taken by the s.s. Morayshire consisted of 4000 carcases frozen lamb. 816 cases b>aef, 30 do rabbits, 138 do poultry. 3000 boxes butter, 18 cases 50 do tongues, 100 jacks oats, 1729 do bran, and 1 case machinery.
The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company's s.s. Kumara took the following outward cargo from this port for London on Sunday ; 6904- carcases frozen mutton and lamb, 48 cases kidneys, 7 casks casings, 160 drums glycerine, 11 bales leather, 9 do glue pieces, 1558 do wooi, 28 do sheepskins, 38 sacks pelts, 2 cases sundries.
