The nati\es on the East Coast of the North Inland are busily engaged preparing for tho whaling <sea=on, which commences next month.

DUXEDIX HOMING PIGEON CLUB
The Dunedin Homing Pigeon Club held a rare on Saturday from Maheno, confined to novice members*. The times cut up were exceptionally good, being better than the club has. had for some yeais. The winning bud was Mr Esqinl ant's bird Ripple, flying 52 miles 160 yards in lhr, a velocity of 152Syds per minute. Messrs Jones and Michie's bird Oera'd secured second place, flying 51 miles 700 yards in ihi 2imin a velocity of 1447 yds lft per minute; and Messrs Crawford and Fuller's bird V&ude-.ille came thud, flying 51 miles in lhr 3mm, a velocity o£ 1421 yd? 2ft per reunite.
