MAN DEVILLE.
April 22 — When one looks back to the unseasonable vea'her in the ppimg, which prevented the sowing of the seed in many cases until well into summer, and realises that nearly everyone has finished haivest by the middle of April, all saved in good condition, and in no way disco'oured, one can't help acknowledging that we have much to be thankful for.
Rabbits.— A large proportion of the residents of this little towrishin earn their livelihood by' rabbiting, and it is to bs regretted that the price this year remains at 4\d per pair, which leaves veiy little to the trapper when all the expenses are deducted. It was understood that the price was to go up long ere this, but it is feared that there is a strong combination amongst the exporters, which prevents fair prices being paid However, the rabiters are talking of skinning, which I have no doubt will have the effect of drawing a fraction more out of the exporter. Political. — Mr Fraser, member for the district, addressed a- meeting of his constituents in the hall on Tuesday evening, Mr Sheed presiding. The member spoke for over an hour, explaining the work done last session, the attitude he took up, and the reasons for so doing. At the conclusion of his address ho answered several questions in a straightforward and open manner, which was approved of by everyone present, showing, as it did, that he did not intend to sail under false colours.
Ball. — The young people are preparing fur the annual haivest home ball, which is to be held in about a fortnight, and should the elements ba favourable, it inomises to be a successful function.
