OTAGO LAND BOARD-
The Land Board sat on Wednesday, when there were present Mr D. Barron (Commiseioner of Crown Lands), and Messrs Dallas, Livingstone, Tough, and J. M. M'Kenzie. Ranger O'Neill reported that James Marshall, lessee of section 2a-, Barnego Estate, was not complying with the residence condition of Ms lease. Lessee to be called on to shov,cause in a fortnight why his lease should not be forfeited for non-compliance with conditions.
A. Earl not having paid rent and license fee oj section 54, block 111, Maerewhenua Estate, Education Reserve, the board was requested to declare his application for a license over tile section lapsed. — Declared lapsed.
James Riddle, lessee of section 12, blc^k XIV, Rimu district, applied to be allowed to cut the standing timber on Quarry Reserve, section 14, same block. — Declined.
H. H. Kirkpatrick applied to transfer his license over section 36, block IV, Gimmerburn district, to R. J. Kinsman. — Granted.
H. W. Williams applied for a license to tut flax on the banks and reserves, Waipori River. — Referred to the ranger to report.
Harriet A. Heron applied for a license to occupy the reserve fronting blocks IX^and X, Town of Roxburgh.— Referred to the Kan^er to report. F. Bedford, on behalf of the Maerewheiraa Mining Committee, wrote asking if the license at present held by the committee was to be xpnewed at the end of the current term. — Held over.
The Maniototo County Council forwarded a, statement of proposed expenditure of "'thirds'' and "iourths" for the period from 3rd October to 31st December, 1904. — Approved.
Craig Brothers applied for a license to cut stakes and posts on section 11, block XIII, Xoeraki district. — Granted subject to roya'ty, the stakes to be stacked in places convenient t& the 'ranger before their removal from section. The Clutha County Council asked if the lioard would grant the council permission to «xpend " thirds " accruing from section 60, block IV, Catlins district, held by G. Hunt, ■towards the construction of a bridge on Hunt's freehold, so as to give him access to section 60. — Declined, as the board had no power to expend " thirds " on roads or bridges.
Elizabeth Rixon applied for a license to occupy the part of the foreshore at Shag Point, Mceraki district, on which her house stands. — Granted at a rental of 5s per annum.
Murray, Roberts, and Co. wrote requesting that a slight alteration be made in the western "boundary of Run No. 213 c, Loganburn.— Granted, subject to lease of Run No. 213 c Leing amended accordingly. The board was requested to consider +he position of E. W. and J. O. Clunie, the lessees of sections 2a and 3a. Duncan Settlement, who were' in arrears with their rents — To show cause within one week why their holdings should rot he forfeited for being in arrears with rent. An application to transfer small grazing run 210, R. G-, J. M., and E. H. Woodhouse -to Robert G. Woodhouse, Run No. 199 d, TeWot district, was approved. Ranger Atkinson reported on the application by T. A.. Munro for a license to occupy the reserve fronting small grazing run 9, Kurow district, and on the obiection made thereto by Walter Sutherland. — Held over. Ranger Atkinson reported on the reitewed application by R. and R. Linwood for a license over 3 acres of the Coal Reserve in block VI, Kurow district. — Declined.
Ranger Atkinson reported on the application by Louisa Linwood for a water right and race from the Wharekuri Creek to section 8. blork VI, Kurow district. — Referred to the Waitaki County Council for their omnion. Application for Pastoral Run. — John Beattic\ runs ' 226, 226r. and section 86 and 92, block I, St. Bathana district.— Granted. The following applications for leases In perpetuity were apnroved • — Catherine Stewart, section 30, block IV, Table Hill district; William Spark, section 5, Town of Waikoikoi; John Duncan Stewart, section 57. block IV. Table Hill district : Adam sections 1, 31,^58, block IV, Table Hill district.
The following- nominations hare been received for the office of Mayor of the Borough of Lawrence : —Messrs A. B. Haggitt, H. H. I.sary, W. F. Smyth. The M.H.R.'s for Palmerston. Manawatu, Pahiatua, Dannevirke, and Otaki are 10 ie invited to meet the council of the PalmerBton Chambsr of Commerce to discuss tl.c advisableness of having railway workshops established at Palmerston North.
