CHRISTCHURCH GRAIN MARKET
CHRISTCHURCH, April 14.
j The local wheat market is even weaker than at last- report, and much difficulty is experienced in fixing prices definitely. Few farmers «are willing to accept the prices offered, and } are demanding 3s all round. There is .very j little prime milling feeing offered, but for •' wheat that is dry and in good condition the demand is fairly steady. The lower-grade qualities, jwhick comprise the larger proportion offering", are very dull of sale. A line of good .sound pearl, 600 sacks, was sold at a IJd station for 3s ljd; 400 sacks of Hunters , were sold for 2s 8d at a2d station ; 1000 sacks of Tuscan (slightly oft colour) were sold at i 2s 6<S at a country station; 'and 500 sacks of | pearl and" 160 sacks of Tuscan 'were sold at 2s. lOd f.o.b. at Lyttelton. Quotations for new '' wheat are from 2s 8d to 2s 10<3.
"The oat market is inclined to be easier. The majority on offer are Gartons, at Is 6d to Is 7d at country stations. There is a good demand for duns and heavy Canadians of prime quality, but both anpear to be scarce. Danish .are quoted at Is 3d to Is 4cL Potatoes are quoted at M, but very little business is being done.
