Lord Salisbury has succeeded Mr Gerald Balfour as President of the Board of Trade. The Hon. Ailwyn Pell owe, M.P. fox' the Ramsey Division cf Huntingdonshire, who has represented the Board of Agriculture and Fisheries in the House of Commons, has succeeded Earl Onslow a/ President of the Board of Agriculture. Some mischievous person last week caused great inconvenience to Ashburton cyclists by scattering tacks on the paths in the Domain, thereby causing scores of punctures to tyres. New regulations have been made governing the relieving allowances for junior officers of the Post and Telegraph Department. In future a junior officer on relieving duty will be paid the following allowances: — While actually travelling on shore, 10s a flay; while relieving, 7s 6d per day; while at sea, 10s for the first day and 2s 6d for each subsequent day. Cadets and other junior officers, however, whose salaries do not exceed £100 a year shall ba paid actual expenses only ; while cadets ent'tled to lodging allowance, when appointed to relieving duty involving separate payment for such a duty, shall only be entitled to claim lodging allowance for one week after the relieving duty begins.
