NASEBY.

A fuither meeting of creditors in the estate of John Reilly, of Poolburn, hotelkeeper and storekeeper, was held in tho office of the Deputy-Official Assignee (Mr F. R. Smith), at JSTa^eby, on Monday. The Assignee presided, and the creditors represented were Messrs Saigood, Son, and Ewen, C. H. Tucker and Co., R. Gilkison, Butterworth Bros., Thomson, Bridger, and. Co., G. L. Dennistou (for all of whom Mr J. E. Kirk appeared), and H. Wilson and Co. (Mount Ida Chronicle, represented by Mr J. W. Eeed). The Assignee said that since laot meeting the chattels -winch, were stated to be in the possession of a thud party had been delivered at the bankrupt's place of business, and nothing had so far been heard of bankrupt's wheieabonl<s. The meeting was a special one to confirm the resolution carried at last meeting tiansferring the proceedings to the Supreme Court at Dunedin. Mr Kirk moved that the resolution be confirmed. This was seconded by Mr Reed, and carried, and the meeting terminated. February 23,— A garden party wa-s held in

the vicarage grounds on Saturday, so that friends of the Rev. (i. W. Christian might ha\e an opportunity of saying farewell prior to that gentleman's departure for his new cure of Port Chalmers. The day was beautifully fine and the attendance large, visitoj.s from long distances throughout the parish being present. As the afternoon wore on, and when the afternoon tea had been partaken of, Mr E. F. Inder addressed those present, and m an admirable speech referred to the good work done by Mr Christian during the seven years he h?d ministered amongst them. He referred also to what had been accomplished by the vestry so iar as the temporal affairs of the chinch iv»ie concerned, and paid a wellmerited tribute to the devotion and zeal of the late Mr N. P. Hjorring, and also to the present lay-reader, Mr Parker, who, through sunshine or snow, was always in his place. Mr Inder assured Mr Christian that his good work had been appreciated, and he was leaving with the goodwill and best wi«hes of his parishioners. Mr Cutten (Mayoi) then asked Mr Christian to accept from him, on behalf cf his many frier ds of different denominations here, a well-filled purse of sovereigns. Mr Cutten spoke as-to the part Mr Christian had taken in school committee and athenreuin matters, m volunteering and athletics, and in the social life of the town, and in a neat speech pxpressed the goodwill of the subscribers throughout the Maniototo district to the testimonial. Mr Inder read apologies from the Eev. J. M'Cosh Smith, M.A., 8.D.. and from the Rev. Father M'Mullan, both of whom were engaged in their duties in other parts of the district, and could not be present. In replying, Mr Christian said that were he to follow his own disposition he would remam in JNTaseby, but he thought that a change would be helpful to the work of God in these parts, and he trusted that it might be the means of a revival. He spoke of the kindness shown to him since he came to Maniotcto, and of the good workers he had had with him. In a feeling manner he made reference to his own work in the church, and concluded by expressing his great appreciation of the gift handed to him. Mr Christian leaves on Wednesday."
