The case againet Frank Johnson, late mine manager of the Golden Blocks mine, has occupied the attention of the Supreme Court for two days. His Honor Mr Justice Denniston put tho following two questions to the j jury: — (1) Did the accused steal 5530z, , alleged to be kept as a secret reserve to equalise- the monthly returns? (2) Did he steal 9Soz. taken by him to Wellington? The jury, which vras locked up for four hour?, i returned at 10 o'clock, and answered '" No " i to the first question, but it could not agree j on the second. The accused was therefore ; founcS "Not guilt" with respect to the j 5530z, and a new trial was ordered on the other charge involving 920z. After objection had bceai heard the new trial was directed to take place at Wellington at the May sittings.
