tailings were cyanided, yielding bullion to the value of £839 14s 6d. I NEW ROXBURGH JUBILEE DREDGING COMPANY. The amvual meeting of the New Roxburgh Jubilee Dredging Company was beld at the Stock Exchange on Monday evening, Mr H. Adam occupying the chair, and there Ijemg about 20 shareholders present. The Chairman, in moving the adoption of tbe report and balance sbeet, the former of ■which has already been published, said the duty was a pleasing one, the company being in a, very satisfactory condition. They would ] notice that for the year they had received 26300z of gold, of the value of £10,233, and had paid in dividends £6375, which brought the total amount paid in dividends up to- 17s per share. After providing for their liabilities •they had a surplus of £1186 in hand. The dredge had not been so successful latterly, and owing to the river being high they had not been able to get on to the ground where they knew gold existed, but they hoped to get on to that ground before very long. As to the future prospects of the company, he could say but little about that, as they could not see to the bottom of the river ; but the directors thought there were a good many years ahead of them before the claim was worked out. About one-third of the claim had not yet been •worked. With regard to the balance sheet, the expenses "last year had been £66 a weak, a heavy item, but they liked to keep the dredge in- good working order in order to save delay in ■working. He mentioned that the late dredgemaster had been with the company since its* inception, and they had been very sorry to lose his services; but a more lucrative position had offered, and he had accepted it. Mr T. Glendining -seconded the -motion for the adoption of the report and balance sheet. Mr Hart, the local director, explained what the dredge had been doing, and said he thought it would have been wise to have-j shifted up above the Ladysmith tail race, where there were about eight chains of ground to "work. The dredge was in very satisfactory order, except the ladder, which required a little- overhauling that would not take long. They had a spare tumbler there, and it was only a matter of putting it in. The motion was then put and carried. Messrs H. Adam and H. Shrimpton were re-elected directors, and Mr D. G-. Davidson auditor. Mr Glendining expressed the opinion that those who had only paid up 12s 6d should not participate in dividends eqxxally with those who tad paid 20s a share. The Chairman said when the new company was formed each shareholder in the old com-I-any was to get two paid-up shares for every contributing shaxe held to recoup them for their loss in the old company. Getting on to good gold straight away, it had not been necessary to call up the 7s 6d. They always looked upon this as a reserve, which could be called up any time. As to paying dividends, they could- not help that. It was provided for m the articles of association. A Shareholder said the old shareholders' chares had cost them £2 per share. Mr Youngman said it had been distinctly understood when they reconstructed that this 7s 6d woald not be called up unless it was required, and it was evidently not required. Mr Glendining considered the company had no righp to have a reserve fund -while there ■was capital yet to call up. The Chairman replied that they would not iiave more than £1000 now in hand. It took 17oz of ,gold a week to run the dredge, *nd they had only got 16oz a -week during the last fortnight. Mr Ycungroan mentioned., for the information of shareholders, that about 11 acres of xuew land had been taken up by the company on the east side of tiSe river, which -could be ■worked when the river was very high. Mr Glendindng thought it should be a recommendation to the directors to bring the contributing shares up to the ful-l amount, and moved accordingly, but, there being no seconder, the motion lapsed. The Chairman said it had been understood that this 7s 6d would not ha called up unless it became necessary. The liability still remained, and if it came to dividin-g the assets those holding these contributing shares would |*et less than other shareholders. The olaes of shareholder in the company was a good one, •nd the money could always be got. The meeting then terminated.
