MELBOURNE, February 28. Mr Reid, replying to Mr Seddon in regard to the two Maoris who were refused) a landing in Sydney, states that if the allegation that the Maoris weie denied admittance without a test can be proved, then those responsible will be severely censured.

With reference to the refusal of the Sydney authorities to allow the Maori shearers to land- in Sydney, the Right Hon. Mr Seddon communicated with the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth, asking for an inquiry, and stating 1 -that one of the Maoris alleged that the education test had not been applied. Mr Seddon has received the following messa^ji from Mr George Reid, dated Melbourne, February 27: — "Just returned from Tasmania. Your received. "Will make instanc inquiry. It allegations correct, severest censure will follow."
