EGG -LAYING COMPETITION.

CHRISTCHU&CH, March 2. - The New Zealand Utility Poultry Club's ecg-laying competition, to be conducted at -liincoln Agricultural College, has competitors' from Auckland, Wairaraua, WestlaJid, Otago, and Soathknd, only 18 pens being allotted to Chrißtchurcn. The applicants' breeds represented are: — Black Orpington, 7 pens: iutt Orpingtons, 7; silver Wvandottes, 7; -bro\v\r'liea:horns, 4; white Legfeorns, 4 : white Wyandottes, 3 ; white Plymouth Bbeks, Anconas, Minorcas, Lang- ■ shans. buff Leghorns, partridge Wyandottes, J. each. Messrs F. Dacre and F. 0. Cummings have been elected the club's representatives on the Competition Committee. Two others are to be elected by the competitors, the fifth being Mr Lawrie, director of -Canterbury Agricultural College.

Dr Douglas has been appointed port health officer at Oamaru, in place of Dx* Barclay (resigned).
