THE MURRAY IRRIGATION SCHEME. i
SYDNEY, January 19. The Irrigation' Committee exhaustively discussed the Murray waters question, including the report of the Legal Committee, which, after dealing with the claims of the various States, recommended that U was desirable to have the law so shaped in New South Wales that, whilst no undue preference is given to upper or lower riparian proprietors, due encouragement should be given to settlement where water is available and irrigation practicable. The conference subsequently adopted this resolution : " That in any scheme for the conservation of irrigation provision should be made for safeguarding the interests of down-stream occupants, and even construction works for fhe maintenance of navigation ; South Australia to share the cost with New South Wales, and Victoria.' 5
