WRECK OF THE BRIER HOLME.
HOBART, January 17. The search party discovered indications that the Brier Holme struck the Horseshoe Reef at Green Island. There is mucih wreckage about. The party found sin unoccupied camp, evidently the place where one survivor had been living a fortnight ago, but there is nothing to indicate his later movement?.
[The Brier Holme was a well-known, trading barque. She was built in 1876, at Sunderland, and her gross tonnage was set down as 921 tons. The crew numbered about 18 all told. The master was Captain J. At the Dannevirke Police Court last week, the licensee of the Beaoonsfield Hotel was fined £5, with costs (£7 8s 6d), for allowing Yankee grab to be played on the premises.
Speaking at Invercargill on Tuesday even-* ing Mr Scandrett said that in passing the Shops and Offices Act the Legislature had done a very wise thing. While there had been a good deal of uproar and speech against it from the larger cities,, when it was carefully read and studied it would be found to be beneficial to all concerned. The great bulk of employers would treat their men rightly, but the minority wanted to take advantage of their workers, and this could only be got over by a general act.
