A Fvencli convict, Hiou!* Jean Nonsnn. escaped from the steamer Pacifiqup at the Circular auay. Sydney, on January 2. The ■escanee, who had been convicted of murder in New Caledonia, was on the wav td France to underero a civil sentence of two' and a-half years' imprisonment, prior to being despatched to one of the French possessions in Africa to serve a military serftence. The police soon sot on his tracks^ and ran him to earth in a house at Neutral Bay,
