SIR J. G. WARD OF TOUR.
THE WANGANUI TRIP.
'IHE THROUGH SERVICE
WANGANUI, January 18.
Sir J. (x. Ward arrived here to-day from Auckland, via Taumarunui and the river, and went on to Wellington by the midday express. Speaking of his trip down the Wanganui River, Sir Joseph said it was a most enjoyable one, and as far as he could see all the arrangements ior the sre-amer service were excellent. The house-boa* on the river was one of the finest of the kind lie had seen. When needed improvements were effected in the upper end of the river it would become a favourite tourist route of the colony, and would be one of NewZealand's best aeeets. Referring to the new time-table for the Wellington -New Plymouth railway, the Minister said the statement that the alteration -would not allow passengers to connectwith the southern steamers was incorrect, and the new service would giv-e a through connection both for tli& North and South Island passengers, as at present.
There were 200 .civil cases set down for hearing at the Wellington Magistrate's Court on Friday, 32 of them "being judgment summonses. This (says the Post) constitutes a record for the colony. The largest number previously set d.Qwn for hearing in one day w.as 178. "" ' "
